WAPLES METHODIST CHURCHES

There are other Waples Methodist churches. The first time I searched for Waples UMC I found that there is one with a web site in Denison, TX called Waples Memorial UMC.

But this blog is for the church located in Hood County just outside of the city limits of Granbury, TX. The following is a citation from the Handbook of Texas published by the Texas State Historical Association:

WAPLES, TEXAS. Waples is on a spur off Farm Road 167 ten miles north of Granbury in eastern Hood County. Settlement of the community occurred sometime before 1900. A 1936 county map indicated more than a dozen scattered dwellings, a church, and a school in Waples. In 2000 the population was 155.

I am now curious whether it still has a town identity. Other than the church I don't see any commercial buildings. There is a railroad spur running next to the church and when we started going there last year, Nancy told me that the train cars have never moved. Last week we noticed that they were gone, so the RR company remembered them at last.
