CREATION SCIENCE

We live near Glen Rose where there is a Creation Museum as well as all of the controversial dinosaur tracks in the Paluxy river.
I have a passion about creation science that I have developed over the last 60 years and would like to present my ideas and enter discussions with anyone who would listen. Bob Coleman questions creation theory but said he needed at least two hours for a conversation.
If any of you are interested I would like to have a study of the topic and could be available any time that is convenient. This could be a continuing topic of discussion.
I contend that our acceptance of the false doctrine of evolution has damaged our belief in God and there are many scientific reasons to accept the Biblical story of creation.
There is a TV show that I have been recording 8:30-9 on channel 264 KTV on creation.

ANNUAL RUMMAGE SALE

Charles would not say how wonderful the men of our church are since he is one of them, but I will.  We have many men in our church who are happy and active.  They carry, load, unload, and keep us entertained.  I suspect they have been patient for the last few weeks while the rest of the family searched out donations and cleaned closets.  Hurray for the women and their efforts too.

We have been getting ready for the church's annual rummage sale at the old Campbell building on East 377.  Mary Richards is our guiding light for the event.  In her announcements at church she mentioned that this week is geting ready week.  It sounded like LOTS of work.  We should have known that when a group of church people dig into a job it is mostly fun and time.  We cleared the week for sorting, hauling etc.  By Tuesday afternoon the tables were carried from the church (by the men) put up and covered with plastic table cloths, and everything received to that point the "stuff" had been sorted on the tables or hung on the clothes racks.  Someone brought hangers, and plastic bags for the shoppers.

I found a baby table, purses and gloves, very nice men's suits, coats and shirts.  The Christmas tables had attention while the other end of the large room sported men's "stuff" like weed eaters and kitchen "stuff" for the cooks.  Not all things were for work.  Noted were a couple of silver trays and for some reason ice cream makers took almost half a table, the other half was kitchen appliances.  Did we quit making ice cream when the kids grew up or was it the advent of Braums in Granbury?  Did I mention more tables of bedding, quilts, blankets, bed spreads, some with matching curtains. There is an unusual amount of good art work, antique crocheted things, embordoried linens and small beautiful things like cut glass candlestick holders.

We left at breaktime with the white porch rocker, also donated for the sale,  occupied.  The beautiful day bed with linens was empty but looked inviting.  By the way, if anyone needs pencils, visit the office "stuff" table by the TV set and stack of picture frames.

More stuff yet this week.  It really isn't just work but God's hand on the giving and service of Waples Methodist.  Thanks to the wonderful ladies of the church who inspire to service.

CANCER GOOD NEWS

I am posting an email from my friend Charles Herndon that is good news. Thank you for your prayers.

Family and Friends

I had an appointment with my Oncologist, Dr Redrow, on June 7. He concluded that I remain clear of active cancer cells and he plans no additional chemo treatments. My next appointment is in six weeks followed by wait and see for a few more weeks and then do another PET scan to verify I’m clear. In the meantime I hope to regain my strength and stamina so I can act like a normal person again. Apparently I have beat the terrible odds – thanks to the help and prayers of many many people. I have been astounded by the innumerable friends – some out of the distant past – who have sent me notes of support.

I have to attribute this success to a combination of things and cannot begin to select one over the other. The first is the constant care of Pat, my wife. She placed nothing before her care and attention to my well being. Then, there were the combination of the most effective chemotherapy chemicals administered by an excellent Doctor, a highly effective combination of therapy techniques recommended by Gerald White with emphasis on Relaxation Methods and then the Prayers for my recovery by more people than I can count. I would never start a journey like this again without each of these items as a part of the plan. I also must mention the extent of the support I have received by disclosing the support of my granddaughter, Ann. She called me EVERY day since December from her school to check on me and give me her love.

None of you should ever under estimate the power and influence you can have in effecting and the well being of a person in need of emotional and/or prayer support.

I do not plan to send any further reports on my status until there is a change or the doctor declares closure. I will then let you know.

You may forward to anyone who may be interested. I love you all.

I appreciated Rev. Munger's sermon on forgiveness this Sunday. I have seen so much hurt in families and the church due to the inability of a person to forgive what they see as an insult to themselves. I know a family where the father died and a daughter who had visited her mother and father every day until he died took offense at something her mother said and after several years has not been able to go see her mother or her brother and forgive each other. Her mother is apologetic but the daughter can't find a way to forgive.

I have seen a number of church members get offended by what a preacher or some other person in the congregation has said either in jest or inadvertantly making a comment that hurts someone. The hurt person leaves the church and when I asked them why they don't forgive and return they comment that they are not going to let themselves be hurt again. As Rev. Munger said the Lord is not an accountant and told us not to keep track but forgive seven times seven which is a lot of times to forgive someone that you feel is hurting you.

I want to tell them to read Matt. 6: 14-16 where Christ explains clearly why the statement to forgive is in the Lord's prayer in the early verses of Matt. 6. If you feel that you can't forgive someone who has wronged you, read those two verses carefully and rethink your position.

PRAYER CONCERNS

I requested that two people be added to our prayer concern list. I would like to add some information about them. Dr. James Olney and his wife Teri, both have cancer and live in Granbury. Jim was the District Superintendant of the Brownwood District that included my home church of Cross Plains. He was forced to resign due to increased problems with his lung cancer. I have been praying for both of them for years and he has gone up and down with the disease. They retired to live in Granbury. I think they attend First UMC.

The other name is Charles Herndon who is an engineer I worked with in 1957-60 who retired from General Dynamics and moved to Granbury a number of years ago. His wife was named Woman of the Year in Granbury in 2010. Last year he was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus and has been battling it with the help of "a program involving Guided Imagery developed by Gerald White who is a member of our church. He is about my age. He developed a program to involve utilizing ones mental strength and prayer to activate the immunity system to eliminate the damaging cancer cells. You may be interested in using the internet to learn more of his approach (www.cancerwarsmaarsjourney.com)."

I looked at the reference and was impressed by another Granbury engineer. I continue to pray for both and hope you will join me. Charles

WAPLES METHODIST CHURCHES

There are other Waples Methodist churches. The first time I searched for Waples UMC I found that there is one with a web site in Denison, TX called Waples Memorial UMC.

But this blog is for the church located in Hood County just outside of the city limits of Granbury, TX. The following is a citation from the Handbook of Texas published by the Texas State Historical Association:

WAPLES, TEXAS. Waples is on a spur off Farm Road 167 ten miles north of Granbury in eastern Hood County. Settlement of the community occurred sometime before 1900. A 1936 county map indicated more than a dozen scattered dwellings, a church, and a school in Waples. In 2000 the population was 155.

I am now curious whether it still has a town identity. Other than the church I don't see any commercial buildings. There is a railroad spur running next to the church and when we started going there last year, Nancy told me that the train cars have never moved. Last week we noticed that they were gone, so the RR company remembered them at last.

FIRST POST

Today at the Fifth Sunday Fellowship dinner Rev. Munger asked me to create a blog to supplement his new web site for Waples United Methodist Church in Granbury. http://wapleschurch.com/.

Nancy invited her granddaughter, Jacqui, to join our friends Bobbe and Yvonne for church and the fellowship meal today. The members of Waples are a very friendly church. We asked Jacqui what she thought. She is typical of one of the "young" people that the church is trying to attract by offering praise band entertainment. She said that she has been visiting other churches and really enjoyed Waples because she likes singing hymns from a book with music in it rather than seeing words projected on a screen. I agree with her. She enjoyed the small church and friendly people. She is a high school math teacher and decided she wants to teach somewhere overseas. She visited a meeting where overseas schools were hiring and looked at possibilities in Europe that she originally wanted but was one of the first ones hired by a school located in the Marshall Islands. It is on Kwajalein, known as one of the one of the bloodiest battles of WWII in the Pacific. The island is a half mile wide and three miles long. She will be working for a school run by the 2600 people employed by the government to run the KRS (Kwajalein Range Systems) that monitors satellite traffic for the Pacific area. She will be scuba diving in waters with many sunken ships and airplanes from WWII. About the only recreation they have there.

Waples has fifth Sunday meals. Our home church in Cross Plains has third Sunday fellowship meals. I notice that 5th Sundays only occur about every three months. I enjoy them so well I would like to see them consider once a month, every month. Nancy's son in Oklahoma belongs to a Choctaw Baptist church who consider themselves the oldest Native American church in Oklahoma. They have church all day with a meal every Sunday. As Rev. Munger told our church this is a tradition as old as the church for it to share a meal. I know that the women might find it a burden but Ken bbqed 10 briskets that would feed a lot of people for weeks.

Dr. Su described last week when she went back home to Korea to bury her father and told of the three day celebration of feasting and bowing to the ground in memory of her father. They stayed day and night in the funeral auditorium until burying him in their family mountainside burial plot. She appreciated all the love shown through prayers, cards and calls.

Joys included thanks for the prayer quilt the women of the church prepared to give to Riley, who is eight months old and undergoing surgery for brain tumors. His surgery last week was reported to be successful and his only problem now is pain associated with teething.

Today was also collection of food for the local food pantry and the back of the church was filled with boxes and bags of food. Nancy looks forward to the crafts project the women have the first Tuesday of every month, like next Tuesday. She finally found a large crochet hook and is looking forward to learning how to crochet Walmart plastic sacks into usable plastic fabrics.
